Ethan Allen - Hoppe's
« on: September 06, 2013, 04:03:04 PM »
Browsing through Gunbroker, here's a couple that are new to me.  Ethan Allen pistols apparently sponsored by Hoppe's.  Is this something new?

or this

They look to be well-produced, but pictures are deceiving.

Edit:  The top one is a 6-shot pepperbox, 30-something caliber, likewise the double barrel.  Belly guns.  My reason for putting them here, part of the single shot black powder tradition.

I've always liked pepperboxes. I may have to pick one up one day.

They're .36 caliber.  Hoppes made them back in the 80s and 90s.  IIRC, they made 4 varieties:  Kits, Plain Blued, engraved Blued, and engraved phosphate finishes.

Sam,  are you bidding on the Ethan Allen Pepperbox?  I have been watching it but not bidding.  Thinking about it though.  If you are bidding I'll stay out.  It's not something important for me.

No, not at all, I just thought it was interesting, something sponsored by Hoppe's.  I think it's a cool piece.  If the price stay's right, go for it, I'd like to see somebody here get it.   (T^

SS, I have one of those double barrels. It leaves a real nice pattern using #8 shot.

I might get in if it doesn't take off like crazy.  The last hour or so will let you know how bad someone wants it.   So far only 6 bids in 13 days.  maybe there's not a lot of interest.

I had a pepper box I built from a kit many years ago; think it was a Classic Arms? Turned out OK, but I believe the Ethan Allen was a better gun.

I like the Ethan Allen Hoppes model because it is a six shot.  All the Classic Arms I have seen are 4 shot.   The GB auction is up to $250 with about 7 minutes to go.  Looks there is a couple guys in a bidding war.   Too much for me.

Not surprising.  You can go through the listings on GB and see the pistols we all know and love STARTING at the price we could buy them for through our favorite big box store.  People go nuts at auctions.
