H&R 1871 Buffalo Classic 45-70 with Cheap Ass Scope
« on: July 25, 2020, 10:01:37 AM »
So until today I had never fired a gun with a scope. About (2) weeks back I was bidding on online auction (same one I bought Pietta parts gun) anyway I see this scope SWIFT 4 X 20 WATERPROOF SCOPE looks like it's going to go cheap so I pick it up for $15.00USD inc buyers premium. Bought the Weaver rail and rings and mounted it myself. Got it zero'ed in at 100 yards with 5" group this morning now to see how tight I can make my groups before I go back to my peep sight.

Swift makes a good scope. I've got a 4-12 X 50 but that looks like a .22 scope.

Hawg, does that mean it won't hold up mounted to the 45-70?

I would expect it to be trashed pretty quick. Rimfire scopes aren't set up to handle recoil.

UPDATE - Range report, took the BC to the range this morning , this past week I made some changes at the bench - changed out the insert for the cheek rest to the highest one and moved the scope a little closer. Made it much easier and natural to get a correct sight picture through the scope without any shadows and score 1" group at 25yd and 50 yd, 1.5" group at 75yd and 2" group at 100yd. Scope is still solid - will probably shoot it a few more times with the scope and then go back to my peep sight.

Why not invest in an old Malcolm or even Unertl type scope instead?

We┬┤re sure not getting any younger and by all means, glass does help with increasing age.
