Paper Cartridge.
« on: October 14, 2019, 07:16:44 PM »
Have seen 1,001 mandrel designs.
Had a thought... why not cast a “mandrel” to the cylinder?

So. I did  Cast to the Lyman.
Judicious coating of PB Blaster to the cylinder.
Filled with hot glue. Yeah. I chose Glitter.
Stuffed a screw in while drying.
Popped them out.

Now to soak the curling papers in stump killer. And start wrapping things up...

Skip the nitrating of the paper,  it's not necessary at all.

was thinking it would help the paper combust in the chamber. That theory seems to swing harder both directions than politics does...
My "mandrel" idea was EXCELLENT in theory, losing some in application though...

Probably back to my sharpie barrel idea that I've tried in the past....

Hoping past fail was my nightly bourbon excess, that no longer plagues me.

Mostly American Spirit cig papers get used here; made from flax. Raw brand hemp paper is really good too, maybe the best for burning clean.  Midnight Express could be the worst for leaving residue in the chambers.  (What with rolling one thing or another - I've tried em all.)::)

I shoot loads of good home-roll carts, regularly and I never nitrate anything.

I used tea bags. When I had my Sharps I used wrapping paper without nitrating and it too burned clean.

Hello SourMashII,

I thought the reason for the tapered mandrel was to tear the paper open on the bottom of load when seated in the chamber.

They would probably work if you turned them down a few thousandths.

I have used the end rolling papers from Sally's Beauty Supply and some Zig Zag paper and all seem to burn the same. At some point always some residual paper left but has not posed a problem to me yet. Omnivore should post in here.

I've read his tutorials... endlessly... He's a right smart feller. My #1 favorite thing about the Sharpie, is the hollow barrel, shape the paper, and pour the powder down the barrel, paper slides off and fills with powder simultaneously.
