Interesting, they have one that appears to be color case hardened and in the description it says it has an iron frame but no mention of cch. I have heard some of the late ones were cch but never saw any hard evidence of it but this is an early one. (^h

Nice photos.   

The third one down is a Beals frame with N. M. Army parts.   

I have one that is a N. M. Army frame with mostly Beals parts. ( Barrel, Cylinder, hammer )   The loading lever is a N.M. Army one.

Colt's were more popular and got more use. As for bringing more why does a Winchester bring more than a Marlin? It's popularity.

Being a war date I highly doubt it. I also doubt any were cch at the factory. Colt case hardened their frames right up to the smokeless period but their frame were iron. Remington frames were steel so there was no need for hardening. The fact that they said this one was iron is probably from lack of knowledge.
