anything well.  That is a lovely long gun in the photos above.

sometimes even a nominally venomous snake can kill......

I was with my Dad in the local trauma center back in '01 when they brought in a 14 yr old boy with a copperhead bite on his hand.
Copperheads have the shortest fangs (shallow injection) and weakest venom of any local snake......but the young man had an allergic reaction to the venom and died in the trauma room.

Some local guys were bass fishing using hatchling rattlesnakes as bait.......one died and one lost half his hand.

Back in 65 or 66 while hunting was bitten in the lower back by a small rattler.  Luckily i had heavy clothes on and one fang hit my belt.
even so I was one sick puppy for about 3 months

This was about 20 miles outside of Scottsbluff.

It's somehow comforting to find a rattler chewing on your boot (instead of you).  At least it's comforting once you get past the panic of hearing a rattle at your side followed by a fast movement.

was back on the range recently to try an idea I had about adding a step to the process.
the pic below is at 50 yds.
the 1st 2 low shots were 60 gr FF Goex, a grease patch and .490 round ball
the 3 on level but to the left were 60 gr FF Goex, a small wad of our local liberal newspaper (to pack the powder just a bit) a grease patch, and .490 round ball.
I've moved the front sight just a bit and intend to take it back to the range tomorrow or Wednesday.
best use I've ever gotten from that newspaper !!

Great write up Johnnie, very interesting.  I understand that our North American indigene friends used dog shit on their arrowheads sometimes.  Have you heard anything of that?

Never applied any to projectiles, but I've been known to rub a little of the hot & steamy under the door handles on the car of the owner of the dog who made repeat deposits on my front yard.
