Is there any downside to not having a recoil shield?
Title: Re: Dance?
Post by: Fingers McGee on August 04, 2011, 09:43:10 PM
caps could fall off.  With the normal recoil sheild, caps can't fall off of the cones.

The Dance has been touted as the Poor Man's Walker. Your impressions?

The .44s weren't much more than a Dragoon.  The frame size was actually smaller than Colt's Dragoon; but was larger than a Navy.  The .36s were comparable to a Colt Navy.

It's the normal misshaped Pietta Navy grip profile.  Since this picture was taken, I've replaced the non-authentic square backed triggerguard with a more authentic large round triggerguard.  I haven't done anything about the flared backstrap though.

From what I read somewhere, the Dance Brothers believed that the recoil shield contributed to chain fires by pieced of cap bouncing around and popping off adjacent chambers. I don't know about all that, but you sure have a sweet looking one there Fingers!

Hmmm... this thing is starting to appeal to me. _.O Historically correct non-rebated .44 but almost 2 pounds lighter than a Colt Dragoon, decent price at Cabela's, and not that bad a job of copying the original.

I did. ;) Got the new Cabela's Christmas catalog with a code for free shipping, and noticed that the catalog price was $20 higher than the price on the website. Well, my momma believed in drownin' all her idiot children at birth, $H* so I jumped on it. Ordered it at the internet price with the catalog free shipping code. {?| I figure I saved myself about forty bucks. Should have it in hand by this time next week. }_B

Title: Re: Dance?

Yep, I used that with my shorty 58. However, it took almost three weeks to get to the store, and then I had a half hour drive each way fightin' trucks and buses on the interstate as well. ^y% Free shipping right to the house in a week is a better deal.

I like mine but recently swapped off the navy grips for the army shape. I hate the flare of the Pietta Navy grips. They barely hold 30grs powder with an 1/8" lube wad. The cylinder is shorter like a Colt navy but drilled 44 cal way down deep. With no recoil shield you can cap right or left handed!
