Disappointed in Pachmayr
« on: September 16, 2020, 07:49:52 PM »
I ordered a set of Pachmayr Grippers for my wife's 637.

They feel good and look good except for this.

I'd be returning those along with a photo, Hawg.

I wanted to but she said as long as they don't hurt her hand she's happy with them.

I’d be worried they might pinch her hand under recoil whilst shooting, you could send a picture of it to them ( the grips on the gun, not your wife’s hands) and ask what they want to do about it

It's worthwhile to contact the company, a lot of times they say keep the one you have and will send you a new one. Good luck!

I sent them a message with pics. I did not know Pachmayr was owned by Lyman.

If these don't work out I might look into them. How wide are they? Her problem is the recoil hurts the web of her hand when the frame slams back into it. I'm hoping the rubber helps soften it but if these don't work I'm thinking something wider might help. I'm kinda looking at Altamonts that change the profile from a round butt to a square butt but all the good designs are out of stock.

The one on my SP is 1-1/2" wide at the palm swells.

This is the one for the Smith 637 J-frame:

The Pach's are 1 1/4 I would imagine the Hogues would be about the same.

Tyler T grip fills in behind the trigger guard so it's less likely to rap the fingers.

I personally don't like the Tyler but her problem is the grip frame smacks the web of her hand under recoil. I'm hoping the rubber will absorb enough of it so it doesn't hurt. If it doesn't I'll try wider wood grips to spread out the force. She has no problem with my M&P but that 637 is an aluminum alloy and light as a feather. The recoil is pretty snappy.
