nope got some throwing hawks.
I'm to old and lazy to get in a hand weapon fight with somebody.
Rather just shoot them!

But remember Quigley. Just because I don't have much use for one, doesn't mean I don't know how to!

Seen Quigley a few times, great movie!

I have a traditional style forged throwing hawk with the knockout handle.  lots of fun.
When I used to see a crew taking down a big tree, I'd look to see if there were any crosscut trunk rounds laying on the ground.  If I acted nice, they'd let me have one or two.  Great hawk targets.

Dear Friends,
What I liked about the movie, "Quigley Down Under," was the part where the Aboriginies are giving him instruction in the use of the Woomera.  This is the way the Aborifinies accelerate their spears, and increase the range they get with them, by having a stick about three to five feet in length, with a hollowed out cup on one end, in which the butt end of the spear is cupped. Then when the spear is launched, the stick is used to whip it through the air.  When I was over there, some guys from the Rifle club and I went "Up North," to a station called, "Daisy Downs Station," to help control the Emu's, which were causing damage to the wheat crop, due to an excessively long drought they had up there!  One of the Old Abo's showed us how they were used, and we all had a go, but in most cases,  with a deplorable lack of success. The Old Man could throw a spear with great accuracy up to sixty yards with the Woomera,  about twice the range that any of us could throw it, WITHOUT the Womera.  In the Movie you just see Quigley throw it once, and it seems to go all right!  I wonder how many times he had to practice before they got a "Take," they could use? They are very tricky to use!

Johnnie, I don't remember that scene, but I'll bet it went something like this:

First take, you see Quigley load and throw the thing, close up

Second take, you see it flying through the air (probably thrown by somebody experienced)

Third take, it strikes the target (and that could have been done from just a few feet away)

This is done with camera "cutaway" shots, so they don't wait a week for him to learn to throw it.  Just sayin  :)
