Mazo beat me to it.  There's no reason you can't be aiming.  And you have two different techniques to practice, and I'd say practice them individually.  One is hip shooting (very difficult to hit anything without a ton of practice) and the other is the slip shooting.

Slip shooting practice would go better if you had a Remington that allowed you to see the iron sights with the hammer down.  Some do and some don't.  Being able to see the sight alignment after the hammer drops allows you to practice "follow-through".  That'll allow you to see exactly how, or whether, the gun is moving as you release the hammer when dry firing.
