Cleaning your threads?
« on: March 21, 2015, 07:11:36 PM »
Do you guys clean the threaded end of your barrel?  If ya do, what have you found to work the best?

Sure, got to clean everything.  Along with whatever cleaner I'm using to clean up ... I hit the threads with a little toothbrush and rags of course.  Q-tips are pretty handy for that spot too.

Yep; toothbrush. And then when it's still hot I melt some lube into the threads.

From the thread title I thought this was going to be a sermon about "keeping things clean" on this here forum.  Well OK; I guess it is, but in a different way.

Heh! Well, Max and Kimmy brushes their teeth about 5 or 6 times a day...they wear the brushes out and thats why I keep the old brushes.  ;)

Then after cleaning my threads, I spray Remington Oil on them.

Just soak the area with your favorite cleaner and  scrub it with a tooth brush. Blast with some compressed air if you have it. Finish with a penetrating oil to dry and displace any moisture hiding in those threads.

Personally I sneak into my Ex Wife's place, take her and her 'Boyfriend's' toothbrushes. One to clean the threads on the '58 and the other to clean the crud off the puppy's butt.
Then I return them.

Why do you torment the puppy?  It didn't hurt you.

Dear Friends,
Well after I have poured VERY hot water down the barrel from the cylinder end, I let it dry and use an old toothbrush just like everyone else!  I never put any lube into the threads that are visible. If I ever saw any signs of rust there, I would of course!

My thought also. Is there a way to clean out old threads? things you wrote in a haste and later regretted? Or are you pinned down for ever in the lower levels of the internet hell?
