Ordered an EMF Remington Brasser
« on: January 31, 2012, 07:20:24 PM »
Cabelas is out of 'em, and the local Bass Pro wants $280 + tax (= $300). The Bass Pro gun -- they only had one left -- was a really nice one, but not at that price. I have gotten nothing but lemons at Dixie for some reason, and so I checked with EMF. They had two in stock and so I ordered one. It is being shipped "ground" from California and so it'll take at least a week to get here.

The Pietta brasser feels better in my hand than their steel guns. The balance is different and the grip is more comfortable for some reason.

I also ordered stainless replacement nipples from Track of the Wolf.

My excitement is muted 'cause the last gun I ordered (from Dixie) had some issues and so I returned it.  :(

Yes, I have heard good things about them. They are a Christian company and so I like supporting them.

I will be in Winchester, VA next Thursday/Friday and will be visiting Taylor's showroom again. They did a nice job with it, and it's always nice chatting with Sue and Tammy.

He Indian Outlaw .  Give me a hollar when you are in Winchester if you have a minute.  Maybe we can go make some smoke.  Winchester is just a couple of miles from my place.

Southernboy, I will be close to you. Am mainly going for some rest & relaxation, and some shopping. I gotta hit Taylor's and that Western clothing store in town. I used to hit Euroarms also, but they are no more. :(

You might swing by Clark Brothers.  They have lots of neat guns and a free out door range.

My brasser arrived yesterday. It is nice. The first thing I did was strip the grips with Dad's Easy Spray. After that, I flooded the dark walnut with Danish Oil. The oil really highlights the grain. I'll take a picture when the grips are finished (and back on the gun). I also need to smooth the bolt so it doesn't score the cylinder needlessly.

I returned from my road trip a couple of hours ago. The first thing I did was put the final coat on the grips. I used a 50/50 mix of Watco Danish Oil and Formby's Tung Oil Finish (really, a varnish) for the top coat. (The first three coats were Watco alone.) I got this idea from a woodworking forum. It gives a bit more sheen and protection than 100% Watco without looking varnished. I like the way it looks after 15 minutes on the grips (and then wiping off the excess). I still need to replace the nipples with the stainless ones. When we get a good thaw I'll take some outdoor pictures.

Sorry, no thaw yet and so here is a crappy indoor shot. Marks on the brass aren't scratches, they are polishing smudges.
