I used to keep mine out and about until my now ex son in law stole 15 pistols. Now they're locked up in a steel cabinet.
        Hawk,
I hope the guns you are locking up are the guns your XSIL stole, and he is jail {L* That would make me feel good.

during the day i keep my Remmy on the gun rack and i use the loading stand i made as a display stand. but during the night i keep my Remington and my NAA Super Companion within reach. i sleep with my window wide open so the sun can wake me up in the morning, but the problem is any old pervert can look in. if one just so happens to look in and stare at me when I'm five feet away and trying to sleep, i can grab my .44 Remington, and scare him off. i think looking down the barrel and cylinder and seeing those six bullets staring right at you and hearing that deadly "Click-c-Click" should scare off any bad guy. my Super companion is a good backup too!! it's deafening in a small space, sounds like a .38 going off, and when loaded with 6-7 grains of Triple Seven that .22 bullet really gets some speed. i have seen it really devastate targets.

I never, ever sleep with the window open, or the door unbarred, all my AC would get out  (?^  and in any event I am a long time paranoid.  GP100 on the nightstand, Winchester '97 on the floor next to the bed, and some other stuff I ain't telling.  They may come for me, and might even get in, and they might even get me, but some of them are coming with me.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Weird that you would use that scenario:

My wife has to get up really early for work, and I usually don't get up until she's leaving.  So one morning I awake to hear her talking to someone at the front door.  I'm thinking, "Why the hell would she open the door for someone at 0500?"  As I stumble into the living room, I find she's talking to a deputy sheriff.  He found a lost dog, saw our lights on, and figured he'd ask if we knew who owned it.

Anyway, I keep my guns locked up.

The Taurus revolver is always out and loaded.
My other pistols are in oil rags, locked in the safe.
I need to get a safe for my long guns.  Most of them are stashed in a closet except one.  I keep something on the mantel (unloaded but ammo nearby). I'll rotate that every week or two - play with it, clean it, put it away and start over with another long gun.

I confess.  It's a sickness.  The Reverend was over here today.  She was reading a Stephen King book aloud.  While she was reading, I cleaned two (already clean) shotguns and saddle soaped a holster.

By the way, why is it that a clean gun seems to always have some dirt on it?

Well then, he's joined the right forum.  Our fearless leader has admitted to constantly fondling his guns, why shouldn't everybody else?   _l
