Title: It's here!
Post by: Captainkirk on February 13, 2012, 10:19:54 PM
My Rogers & Spencer arrived today _l

After removing bubble wrap and Scotch packing tape for nearly ten minutes  M__  I finally had it in my hot little hands...and a huge Thank You to Indy for shoving it on me before it's even paid for (k-

After a cursory examination and wiping down, I worked the action a few times....and was completely unhappy with the hammer drag and grainy trigger. Besides, I'd never had one of these apart before.....
Out come the screwdrivers. Scalpel! Clamps! Rogers & Spencer to OR-1; Stat!
Within minutes this thing is spread all over the workbench. The trouble is immediately apparent; Indy had mentioned this thing was possibly unfired. Possibly...NOT! Never fired. The hammer and trigger surfaces were untouched as cast from the factory, as well as the critical hammer roller surface on the mainspring. We'll fix that! A little sandpaper, a little oil, a couple hours.....and some lithium grease, and; Voila!
Oh, what a difference! A crisp trigger that breaks on a whisper; a hammer pull like a hot knife through butter! The grease that blocked the nipple holes is gone; the threads now lubed with anti-seize and clear daylight shining through. Lock-up like a Swiss vault. After a thorough oiling with Rem Oil, This thing gleams like a baby's butt. My only complaint now is poor wood-to-metal fit on the grips (they are slightly undersized). I can live with it.
Photos to follow!

it might have took ya some time to git it unwrapped but the damn thing arrived intact didn't it? I err on the side of way too much protection as opposed to way too little. I have pics of boxes with the barrel of a pistol stickin out with one, yes ONE layer of bubble wrap over it. The same box had hole from the hammer and the butt. I don't do that kinda crappy packin! ;)

Glad you are pleased! I have to admit that I miss it, That was one I would have liked to keep. ])M If I can't eat em they git sold it seems, OK, not ALL of em.... ;)

Oh, I ain't complaining about the wrap....not since the ASM S&G with the barrel poking out of the box. Nope; no complaints from here!

I got another R&S now and got a conversion cylinder for it, I figured I better since they dont make the euroarms anymore. But one in stainless would definitely blow my dress up :P

I had some american holly grips made for mine, I love the yellowed look of old ivory

I can honestly say that my R&S is simply the most accurate cap n ball revolver I own. I cant say that it is so with the conversion cyl. I have not messed around enough to find out what it likes in a load yet. It has the tightest lock up at full cock of any of the revolvers as well, this includes the conversion cyl. Somewhere I read that a 58 remmy conversion will fit, dont believe it, I have conversions for both pietta and uberti, neither fit. Midway still carries the conversion for the euroarms R&S
