saw this once several years ago and forgot about, ran across it again

might be good for the newbies.

can actually make black powder  without sulphur   the corrosive additive

Very  interesting and informative site. So far, I have resisted the temptation to make my own powder.

Thanks for the link!  My head is spinning. Almost too much info but that is good.

About charcoal --  How would bone charcoal work?  I am thinking the stuff they use in fish tank filters.

Good charcoal for black powder comes from willow, alder, and hazel. In fact, the type of willow, alder, and hazel will have substantial impact on powder quality. Bone charcoal will be virtually unusable as it lacks the volatiles level of gas.
