Guns that use C02
« on: February 20, 2012, 11:08:07 AM »
One thing that I don't like about C02 is:
When I put a new C02 in and just want to shoot off like 10 BBs or Pellets, then put the gun away for a couple days...then come back and shoot some more. The C02 is empty.  ^y%
These C02 are not cheap. I wish there was some way to seal these C02s.

Anyone with me on this?

Gent I am going to have to disagree with you completely.  The seals in CO2 guns need conditioning.  And the best stuff to condition seals and keep the valves in good working order is Crosman's Peloil on Pell gun oil.  I have been able to take 50 year old CO2 guns that would not hold pressure and completely revive them to fine working order.   Here is one of them.

After getting this one revived it held pressure for over a year.  I would load it up and shoot it 6 times every month to see how it was holding up.  It is amazing.

Heres another one.

This one takes the smaller CO2 bulbs.  It took several for CO2 cartridges before it "took" but holds pressure just fine.

What you have to do is on the very tip of the CO2 cartridge you need to place a drop of Peloil on it.  This helps the inlet to pentrate the seal and allows tiny amounts of the oil into the system to lubricat the valves.  I try to leave a slight amount of pressure in the gun.  This keeps the valves closed and does not let impurities to get in.

I even used Pel Oil to rejuvenate this old Benjamin 317 pellet rifle

I dropped a few drops of Pel Oil down the intake hole and worked it a couple of times each days.  It took several weeks for the oil to make its way into the valves and such but it took hold and now will hold as little as 2 pumps indefinately!.  Co2 guns are good!.  You just need to use that Pelgun oil.

Read the reviews on this.

Heres a great article on this:

No!  You can get the stuff at "Big 5" Dicks, just about anywhere that sells bb guns and such.  I even think the WalMart has it.  The stuff is ruby red like ATF.  I dont know how may AGs I've brought back into service using it.  I will rant and praise it til the day they bury me.  If could only take one thing with me when I pass on it would be a tube of Pell gun oil. LOL

Good Charlie, I use it to lube the pivot pins on all my multi pump guns.  When I got my Hahn "45" I installed a powlet into it and it leaked out dry in about 1 minute.  I kicked myself for not using Pell gun oil.  I dampened a Q-tip with the oil and passed it around on the seating area inside the gun and added a drop on the tip of the cartridge and put it in the gun.  Voila! no more leak.

Most of the CO2 retaining screws are ment for finger tight.  A lot of guns have been ruined by folks using pliers and such to turn the seats down springing the alignment all out.

I've must have 10 or 15 CO2 guns and use it on all of them without a single problem in the whole lot.

Guys; it's nothing but repackaged ATF. I fix leakers all the time with a healthy dose of ATF. It'll blow "snow" out of the muzzle & shoot weak for a while but it flushes the system & lubes the seals. Then just a drop on the tip of each new CO2 cartridge to keep it lubed.

Wonder if that would work with mine. You screw the plug in and push the button to puncture the cartridge and it empties immediately.

Give it a try Hawg; if it doesn't work all you're out is a CO2 cartridge & a teaspoon of ATF. & if it doesn't work; you could just sell it to me  ;)

Some complain about the couple dollars spent on Pelgun oil . It comes in a little tube and last a long, long time. Getting old seals fixed with it is an old airgunsmith trick. I am always looking for airguns that don't work. Most only need the seals reconditioned. Buy the used, old non-working airgun .Put a few drops of oil on the seals work it in and wa-la .

It is , I have heard a " special blend" and red just happens to be the color added. You can find articles on it if you google it.
