Crosman Introduces Lead-Free Pellets
« on: January 29, 2012, 08:07:37 PM »

Crosman Corporation, long known for innovation and quality in products for the shooting sports, has introduced the three new lead-free pellets with outstanding ballistic properties that enhance long-range shooting.  In addition to being more environmentally friendly, each of the new belted, pointed Powershot™ Penetrators is designed to maintain shape after impact, providing better penetration for hunters.  Their profile also offers more stable, precise flight for target and recreational shooters.

According to Tom Clark, Crosman product manager, the three new lead-free pellets promise important advantages.  “Screaming fast, extremely accurate, and more environmentally friendly pellet hits the bull’s eye for target shooters and hunters alike,” he said.  “The new Powershot pellets are faster than lead pellets, have a cleaner profile in flight to slice through the air, and won’t deform on impact, making them great for penetrating the center of your target or whatever game you’re hunting.”

Gamo also has the gold plated alloy pellet 'Raptor'. Increases mv from 1000 to 1250 fps and several other new pellets. http://www.gamousa.com/pellets.aspx

I tried some composit pellets years ago & couldn't get them to shoot well. I imagine Crosman has done their homework & these will shoot fine.
I'm not a believer in supersonic pellets & use pellets heaviy enough to stay subsonic.
I reckon so

I read also some comments that many aren't a friend of supersonic pellets, because of the tumbling of the pellet based on the shock wave = faster isn't always better!!

I recently got a crosman 1322 and chrono'd the flat 13.9 gr daisy pellets at 430 fps. I ordered some lead round ball ammo of 15.4gr at 419fps. I also got something similar to this post. It's lead free point, maybe zinc,in a plastic skirt, chrono'd at 499 fps. Shooting at cactus it seems the skirt makes a 22 caliber hole about 1/4 inch deep or so, then the point separates and just keeps going. On a critter it would deliver shock and penatration to vitals. On a box of paper the 2 componets can be recovered reunited and reused. I want to compare speed at 20 yrds next.

I have tried several brands of lead free pellets and so far I do not like them.  Accuracy suffers and knock down power drops.  JMHO  ^y% ET

In most cases they cost more.  They up velocity but have less knockdown.  In my German and Chinese Pellet rifles they are less accurate.  ET  ^y%

Maybe the Crosman are better than the Gamo and one other brand I tried.  I love the speed but not the accuracy and knockdown.  The ones I shot blew right through birds and small game with little expansion.  They also trippled my standard size groupings.  As you know each gun is different, just test them and see how they work for you.  If you find one that is accurate and still has expansion and KO power post it and I will try them.  Thanks, ET

No problem, I always am ready to test something new or find something better.  Here is a link to reviews from customers that tried them from Basspro. http://reviews.basspro.com/2010/101712/crosman-crosman-lead-free-177-caliber-pellets-reviews/reviews.htm

An article from Archer Airguns on lead free pellets.
