Building a Presentation Case......
« on: July 29, 2018, 10:40:20 PM »
been really wanting a nice velvet lined presentation case for my stag gripped '58 Sheriffs model lately, but haven't wanted to drop the $150 that most companies want for a decent case now.

Today I noticed my Dad (who lives next door) wrestling my old childhood clothes dresser onto his carport to set by the street for junk pickup.

My wife & I ran and wrestled it for him (he's 82 FCOL !) and I noticed how nice the knotted pine top looked......so it came home with us, and is now cut down into top and bottom sized pieces with parts of the inner framework ready to be cut into side slabs and divider pieces.

it'll be the standard, revolver & capbox / powder flask / wads, balls, tool, capper     layout

i'm in absolutely no hurry to finish this, and think it'll be really nice when done......especially being from my childhood !!

Neat!

Pro tip; wrap the dividers before they go into the box, and wrap the free edges underneath them.  You can get a perfectly neat velvet lining that way.

As far as building a case, these prices are good enough that it might not be worth your time to build one. OK, I do want to make one someday, but these prices are pretty nice! A deluxe case is $65.00, standard is $55.00 for the '58 Remmie.

Mazo, that is a nice tip! I will for sure buy one or more of the "deluxe" models. My woodworking skills rival an 8 y/o whittling out his first slingshot!

DAYUM Mazo.....many thanks for that tip !!
my (82 y/o ) Dad has been hospitalized and between work and sitting with him, my time has been whittled to near zero, so one of those will have to do for now.

I'd love to do a big glass top coffee table display case with a hinged / locking lid.
Something functional and pretty.

Hi Drifter, you can get a very nice case for low cost from here:

https://www.hampelswoodlandproducts.com/

I have two of the cherry cases for my engraved 1858s, see cases on top:

The cherry darkens nicely in time.

Regards,
Richard

Richard, that is the same company that I referenced above. They make very nice cases at inexpensive cost. Everything from glass topped display cases like yours to fitted solid top cases, and in a lot of different sizes.

Don't worry, when you get it and see their work for the price, the wait is worth it. At least it was in my experience. They sent me a beautifully made glass-top display box for the price of some mass produced crap. I was VERY pleasantly surprised when I opened the shipping carton! My laser-etched "engraved" Pietta 1858 is snug and happy inside it now...............
