Softens the fouling.  It can be a pretty big deal, which is why you'll find an accessory called a "blow tube" for sale in the BPCR circles.

Yep, I figure you'd be gang-tackled by range safety Nazis, excoriated, condemned, scourged, and crucified as a sacrifice to their safety gods (liability insurance agents).  So make up a blow tube; just some vinyl tubing that fits the bore.  My solution is to avoid supervised ranges.
