Hi Gill - I commend Omni’s idea of getting a new Pietta Navy (steel frame, .36, 7.5”) and a Sheriff's model barrel and loading lever/rammer assembly from VTI.  That would set you up good and you would have two mods in one package. Just don't wait ten years to shoot it.

Gillamax77 - if you're not in a hurry, Cabela's frequently has sales on their brass frame 44 - 1851 sheriff and standard length pistols. Usually the sale price is around $150 w/ free shipping. You can probably get a whole gun for the price of a barrel from somewhere else.

Cabela's recent sale just ended a few days ago.

Well what I did was order the barrel anyway. I have a Pietta brass frame and an 8 inch barrel lying around. Soooooo I am going to make me a 5 inch shooter with a 2 inch swap barrel or get another frame of which I may already have and make a snub by out of it. VTI tells me I need a Uberti barrel to fit other pistol. That’s fine I will just keep a search going for one.

I looked at a Pietta 51 Navy today, CCH frame, looked like 7.5" bbl. I had not hefted a Pietta for well over 25 years. People on here been saying how the quality was much better than the yesteryear mfg., so i seen one while buying some powder and looked it over. It was seriously nicely assembled, beautiful CCH frame, the cylinder locked up so tight it felt welded. The trigger pull could not of been any better! It was such a nice gun, the grips fit perfect, the rich lustrous blue was flawless. $250 plus 6% tax.
