Went deer hunting this morning.  0° F.  Didn't see a deer, but there is one less yote in the world.

I've had the same happen to me on numerous hunts.   No deer but coyotes were abundant.    We are nearly overrun with them in suburban areas in Colorado.   People are fighting them off with sticks while walking their little fluffy dogs.    I think they throw dog treats at them trying to scare them away.

Good shootin Dave.

Bluetongue has nearly wiped out the deer around here. used to see 6-10 every time i went on a walk, now they are gone.

No shortage of coyotes though. sometimes i can here them howl at the moon or whatever in the night.

I like howling back at them.

Good shooting Dave. There's a lot of them around here. They seem to move around so fast that it's hard to get a shot off at them. The one's that have been getting bagged are pretty good size. Yeah you can hear them at night. To dang cold to hang around outside to lesson to them.

In this area of the CA Coast Range no one can keep cats or small dogs, unless inside - otherwise the coyotes will get them.  If the yotes don't snag the small pets then the fox, bobcat and cougar will.  I consider the sound of coyotes as the next best thing to howling wolves.  Our subspecies is the California valley coyote.  If it wasn’t free I’d pay money to listen to those guys. [In the extreme NE of CA some wolves have taken up residence.  They came down from Eastern Oregon.]

Canis latrans come across my property regularly. A few are way bigger than a pure coyote should be and definitely look hybrid.  I could bag a bunch of them anytime, but I don't.  They’re the regular local choir and really don’t mess with me at all.

Those things come right down into the residential areas of my town in California. I noticed my sisters domestic cats never rest or sleep om the ground. they always climb up to a high and safe place.

My wild cat seems to be ok outside   my dog too.
But she's always in at night anyway.  My inside cat stays inside all the time.
My neighbors have two huge lab /rotty mix  so even though I hear them (coyotes) sometimes at night   but quite  a ways away.
