First Remy 8" 44
« on: January 06, 2018, 04:39:03 PM »
Received and cleaned , haven't been to range yet.
This is the first 8" 44 that I own. Had several 5 1/2" and a .36 in 8"
Noticed a big difference .36 being notiably heavy.
This 8"has balance that I like. Feels good.

Did I say I like Pietta ? Fit and finish is very good , hammer pull is a little heavier
than I prefer but will be fixed with a lighter spring.
8" dedicated as BP gun.......at least  for awhile.

Here with companion 45 Colt .

You'll like the 8 inch a lot better for shooting.

Congratulations Hewy!  You’ve arrived in Remington Land.  I bechyer gonna like that thing.  As much as I value and enjoy the 5.5” - that new one of yours is the absolute real deal.  Now don’t go choppin on it just yet.  Take it to your range, shoot it and tell us what you think.

Did you have a counter-historical Pietta 1861 (1/2” too long but still cool) or did you mean 6.5 inches on the “heavy”.36 you referred to?

You did the right thing on the new 8” – well done.  Go shooting, bud.

G Dog, the .36 was a Pietta I believe 7 1/2" not 8"  (^h All I knew it was a Pietta full size as a 44
with a smaller bore. That of course was more metal in barrel/ cylinder meat and
contributed to weight. It is the one I was shooting and the load lever catch fell off.
That did it. I cut down barrel to 4" plus Birds Head grip , turned into "Black Friday"
No ,no, no, this new one won't be touched , just used as designed. Figured I keep the 5 1/2 as a conversion and wind up with a spare unfired BP cylinder to boot.
Every gun I have now is closer to authentic, with exception of the 1851 Navy 44 Sheriff  that is
for sale.
