Lets see them squirrel and rabbit guns.....
« on: September 20, 2011, 01:35:57 PM »
Its gett'n that time of year agin.  Here's my .34 caliber Vincent.  Not .32 caliber or .36 caliber but .34 caliber.  Shoots a patched #00 buck ball.  Its got a 30" x 7/8" barrel, fine sights an double set triggers.  Stoke 'er up with 25 grains of FFFg and #00 buck ball and she'll cut eyes outta squirrel at 40-50 yards all day long.

So...whatcha shoot'n this year?

Y' know ET I dont know ifn anyone is makin the .34 caliber anymore.  I bought this'n years and years ago and then when I was askin for .330 round lead balls a fella said "thats just #00 buck Pard!". And yer right about find'n 00 buck easy.   I get 'bout 640 #00 buck ball ina 5 pound box of Hornady's swaged #00 buck.... dang accuret shot ta boot.  If'n you had a 25# bag of that buck shot you'd be set fer life.   But I'll do some look'n with ya and if I find someone sell'n barrels I'll let y' know.

That's one fine looking rifle Drifter.  ;) My go to rifle is that little .40 caliber longrifle I've posted a pic of somewhere on here. I've killed alot of critters with it.

Mine's an old Hopkins & Allen .35. Used to shoot it with .323" balls & denim patches. I got a bag of .345" balls to try next time out.
I reckon so

Fly all I know its a Vincent of Ohio.  Its not an antique, but I figure is was probably made back in the 70's or so, not sure.  A fella traded it to me for a knife I made out of a northwest trade gun.

either my smith 50 cal or sharps 54 cal.  In the end it's all about shot placement!

Yeah, with a .50 or .54 you would definitely want a head shot! {?|
